Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Introduction
Orris ("we," "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information across two products: the Orris iOS application and the Orris New Tab Chrome extension. The two products operate independently and do not share data.
The Chrome extension is covered in the next section. All remaining sections (Information We Collect, Data Storage and Security, Third-Party Services, etc.) apply to the iOS application unless noted otherwise.
Chrome Extension: Orris New Tab
The Orris New Tab Chrome extension runs entirely in your browser. It makes no network requests, uses no third-party services, and collects no information about you.
What the extension accesses
The extension requests three Chrome permissions, each used for a specific purpose:
- storage — saves your preferences locally via
chrome.storage.local. Preferences stored:- Default breathing pattern (Auto, or one of eight named presets)
- Time format (12-hour or 24-hour)
- Cycles per session (4, 6, 8, or 12)
- Show quote (on or off)
- Your name (optional, for the greeting)
- Tile mode selection (Top Sites / Quick Links / None)
- Quick Links you add (URLs and labels you explicitly save)
- topSites — reads Chrome's most-visited sites list (the browser's own data, only URLs and titles) to render the default tile row. We never see which specific pages you visit, how often, or for how long.
- favicon — renders site favicons from Chrome's local cache via the internal
_favicon/URL. No external requests.
None of this data leaves your browser. It is not accessible to us or to any third party.
What the extension does not access
- No personal information, identity, name, or email
- No browsing history, tabs, URLs, or web page content
- No location, camera, microphone, or device sensors
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reports
- No cookies or fingerprinting
What the extension does not do
- Makes no network requests to any server
- Bundles no third-party SDKs or tracking libraries
- Shows no advertising
- Has no account, login, or sign-up system
- Does not sync with the Orris iOS application
Data retention
If you uninstall the extension, Chrome automatically deletes all preferences stored under the chrome.storage.local namespace. No residual data persists on your device or with us.
Information We Collect
The App has no account system, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking tools. Almost everything the App stores stays on your device.
Data Stored on Your Device
- Breathing session history (such as date, duration, and pattern)
- Preferences, reminder settings, and custom patterns you create
- Streaks, milestones, and first-week progress
This data stays on your device. It is not sent to us, except for the general details included with feedback you choose to send, described below.
Data You Choose to Send Us
- In-app feedback, described below
- Emails and other messages you send to us
Diagnostics Shared Through Apple
The App does not collect crash reports or usage statistics itself. If you have turned on "Share With App Developers" in your iPhone's settings, Apple provides us with anonymized crash reports and aggregated usage statistics for the App. You can turn this off in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
Health Data
If you choose to enable HealthKit integration, the App may read and write mindfulness minutes to Apple Health. This data remains on your device and under your control through Apple Health settings.
In-App Feedback
From time to time the App may ask how Orris is working for you. Answering is optional. If you answer, the App sends your answer, any topics you select, and any note you choose to send to our feedback service. Each answer includes general app details: app version and build, iOS version, device model, language, whether you have Premium, approximate usage ranges (such as "5-9 sessions" and how long ago you started), your first-week goal and progress, and your haptics and reminder settings. Our feedback service also records the country the answer was sent from; our feedback database does not store your IP address. Answers do not include your name, device identifiers, or your breathing session history. If you choose "Want a reply?", your email address is included and used only to reply to you. Notes and reply addresses are also forwarded by email to our support inbox so we can read and respond to them.
How We Use Your Information
Data stored on your device is used by the App to show your history, streaks, and progress, and to remember your settings and saved patterns.
We use information you send us to:
- Understand how the App is working for people and improve it
- Fix problems you report
- Reply to you, if you ask for a reply
Data Storage and Security
Your breathing data is stored locally on your device. The App does not sync it to our servers or to iCloud. If you back up your iPhone with iCloud or to a computer, Apple includes App data in that backup under your own Apple account settings. Feedback you choose to send is stored by our feedback service on Cloudflare's infrastructure. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
We may disclose your information only in the following circumstances:
- With your explicit consent
- To comply with legal obligations
- To protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property
Third-Party Services
The App may use the following third-party services:
- Apple HealthKit: For tracking mindfulness minutes (optional)
- StoreKit: For processing subscriptions through Apple
- Cloudflare: Hosts our feedback service, which receives and stores feedback you choose to send from the App
- Apple: Provides anonymized crash reports and usage statistics from people who have chosen to share diagnostics with app developers
These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.
This Website
This section applies to orrisbreathing.com rather than the App. The website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It does not use cookies and does not identify you. If you sign up for email updates on the website, your email address is stored by Loops, our email provider, and used only to send those updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data stored in the App
- Export your breathing session history
- Delete your data by uninstalling the App
- Opt-out of HealthKit integration at any time
- Turn off sharing diagnostics with app developers in iOS Settings
- Ask us to delete feedback you have sent
Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
Data Retention
Your breathing session data is retained on your device for as long as you use the App. If you delete the App, all locally stored data will be removed from your device. Device backups you have made with iCloud or a computer may still contain App data until you delete those backups. Feedback stored in our feedback database is deleted automatically after 12 months; emails forwarded to our support inbox are kept only as long as needed to respond; to have it deleted sooner, email us.
International Users
Your breathing data is processed and stored locally on your device. Feedback you choose to send is processed by Cloudflare, which may handle it in data centers outside your country.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
